Exclamation CEL cycling..

my check engine light came on like a month ago.. my dad hooked it up to whatever that device is & it said something about my catalytic converters.. he reset it & now when he goes back to check it still says it's cycling.. i didn't know if anyone knew how long it would keep cycling for.. i've driven over a good 500 miles with it.. but i know every car's different.. i'm just hoping the damn thing doesn't come back on because then the next question is wtf is wrong with it.. if anyone knows lemme know.. because i'm stumped.. thanks.

Not sure what "cycling" means, but are you sure it wasn't the 02 sensor and not the actual cat converter? Cat's are expensive, 02 sensors...not so much.

My check engine light was on my dad checked it with the machine which in turn shut the CEL off, I was wondering how long it cycles, in other words if the light was gonna come back on, how long would it take for that to happen.

It should have already happened if that part is indeed bad, unless the machine he used disables the CEL altogether for some reason, then you'll never see your CEL again unless you can find a way to reactivate it.
The "cycling" message on his machine may be a glitch or problem with it rather than your car though...

Was it a Vapor leak or Evap Code?? if so, double check you gas cap every, and I mean every, time you put gas in you car. It is a harmless code, more of a nuisance really.

i'm not worried about why the cel would have came on in the first place.. if it comes back on then i'm just taking it to the toyota dealership to get it evaluated.. i'm hoping it stops cycling & justtt want to know how long that would take to happen. hopefully it just stops & the light doesn't come back on.. but we'll have to wait & see.. hah.

no mods done to it besides lowering springs.. an alarm.. and wheels.. so i don't think any of that would effect that.

thanks anyways.

What year is it? If it is an 06 it needs the TSB work performed for the filler neck and charcoal canisters.

disregard my input then.

I highly doubt you need a new cat, either way. Like others have said, the light would have been back on already.

my battery wire was loose which would result in my car randomly not starting. since it was constantly resetting everytime the wire would come loose it was forever cycling. my dad finally tightened my battery wire the CEL has never come on again & it's no longer cycling & i'm very happy that nothing's wrong with my little egg the end.
